ONEONTA, N.Y. -- SUNY Oneonta softball senior
Delaney Haley (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) received SUNYAC Softball Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon, to cap off her program record-breaking week. Haley hit a staggering 11-for-17 for a .647 batting average and tallied 11 runs, six stolen bases, and an RBI in the Red Dragons 6-0 overall, 4-0 SUNYAC, week. The speedy left fielder broke two Oneonta Softball records earlier in the week to become the program leader for most stolen bases in a single season and career stolen bases.
Haley started the week 5-for-8 with five runs, an RBI, and three stolen bases in a doubleheader sweep against Union. She broke both Red Dragons' stolen base records in their second win against the Garnet Chargers. The Levittown native went 2-for-4 with three walks and a stolen base in Oneonta's SUNYAC doubleheader win over Fredonia, then finished off the week 4-for-5, scored four times, and stole two bases in a pair of wins over Buffalo State. Haley is currently first in the SUNYAC in stolen bases (28), runs scored (35) and is third in batting average (.427).
The Red Dragons (18-14, 10-4 SUNYAC) have won 10 straight including eight SUNYAC games, 12 of the past 14 overall, and clinched a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs after they defeated Buffalo State in this previous Saturday's twin bill. Oneonta closes out the regular season this Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, on the road against Brockport (8-22, 2-10 SUNYAC) and Geneseo (17-15, 10-2 SUNYAC) in a pair of SUNYAC doubleheaders.
