Red Dragons Cruise Past Broncos and Generals

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's swimming & diving team took first in 14 events in Wednesday's dual meet against Delhi and Herkimer. The Red Dragons took down the Broncos 214-20 and defeated Herkimer 217-9.

Oneonta started strong by winning the 400-yard medley relay. Senior Maddox Aramini (Cooperstown, NY/Cherry Valley-Springfield) and juniors Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago), Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central), and David Scott (South Ozone Park, NY/) swam a 3:52.22. Tyrell set a pool record as the lead-off in the 100-yard backstroke at 52.79. Sophomore Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany) touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:42.39, and sophomore Gavin Weseman (Olean, NY/Olean) placed second at 11:45.06. Sophomore Andrew Capella (Glenville, NY/Burnt-Hills-Ballston Lake) won the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:59.97, while freshman Bastian Dudley (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) took second at 2:00.04. Junior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) took first in the 100-yard backstroke at 59.11, and freshman Russell Cheng (Westchester, NY/Ardsley) swam a 1:03.30 for second.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Martinelli won at 1:08.97. Heaney placed second with a 1:09.38. Sophomore Colin Ringwood (Auburn, NY/Auburn) finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:24.38, while senior Anthony Genovese (Seaford, NY/St. John the Baptist) swam a 2:32.78 for second.

Fifth-year Ross Caimano (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) won the 50-yard freestyle at 23.01, while sophomore Ethan Cairo (Bethpage, NY/Freeport) touched second at 23.85. Scott took third with a 24.30.

Oneonta took the top two spots in the 100-yard freestyle. Aramini took first at 52.03, and Cheng was second at 52.83. Hitzschke won the 200-yard backstroke at 2:14.29.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, freshman Josh Pappace (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz Senior) touched at 2:44.05 to take first overall. Weseman won the 500-yard freestyle at 5:36.84, while Heaney was second at 5:37.06. Dudley finished third at 5:45.09, and sophomore Matthew Cleveland swam at 6:22.10 for fourth.

Aramini won the 100-yard freestyle with a 57.11, and Genovese was second with a 1:04.69.

Hitzschke won his third event with a 2:13.90 in the 200-yard IM. Junior Nicky Byrd (Purchase, NY/Harrison) took second at 2:20.34.

Oneonta wrapped up by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay. Heaney, Cheng, Caimano, and Aramini swam a 1:33.78.

Oneonta next travels for the Electric City Invitational in Scranton, PA, on Fri. Nov. 22.
