Oneonta Takes Down Oswego In Dual Meet

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's swimming & diving team won nine events on the way to a 126-104 victory over Oswego on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Dragons kicked off by taking first in the 200-yard medley relay. Juniors Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago), and Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School), and sophomores Ethan Cairo (Bethpage, NY/Freeport) and Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany) swam 1:40.07, four seconds quicker than the Lakers' relay.

Sophomore Andrew Capella (Glenville, NY/Burnt-Hills-Ballston Lake) won the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:05.69, and freshman Josh Pappace (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz Senior) took fourth at 12:47.51.

Senior James Llewellyn (Great River, NY/East Islip) took first overall in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:52.17, while sophomore Colin Ringwood (Auburn, NY/Auburn) swam a 1:56.32 for third place.

Oneonta continued with a first-place performance from Martinelli in the 50-yard freestyle at 23.03. Freshman Russell Cheng (Westchester, NY/Ardsley) was fifth at 23.90.

Hitzschke touched 55.33 in the 100-yard butterfly to take first place, while junior Maddox Aramini (Cooperstown, NY/Cherry Valley-Springfield) swam a 58.04 for fourth overall.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Llewellyn placed second at 50.94, and Martinelli finished fifth at 51.83.

Oneonta took the first three spots in the 100-yard backstroke, with Tyrrell winning with a 54.83. Senior Joseph Campise (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) was second at 1:00.46, and junior Nicky Byrd (Purchase, NY/Harrison) placed third at 1:01.84.

Cappella took second in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:19.13. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Cairo swam a 1:03.96 for second place. Freshman Luke Goodspeed (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) was third at 1:04.98.

Oneonta capped off the swimming events by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay. Cheng, Hitzschke, Llewellyn, and Tyrrell finished at 1:30.38.

Freshman Benjamin Heyman won both the one-meter and three-meter dives. He scored 133.40 in the three-meter and 151.70 in the one-meter.

Oneonta next competes at RPI on Sat. Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
