Cartier, Haley, Serena Tabbed NFCA All-Region

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) released their Division III All-Region teams Friday afternoon, and out of 373 student-athletes in the 10 regions, the SUNY Oneonta softball team had three members honored. Sophomore Julia Serena (White Plains/Valhalla) was named to the Region III first team as a catcher and juniors Sara Cartier (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Delaney Haley (Levittown/Division Avenue) were selected to the second team as a designated player and outfielder, respectively. This is Serena's second time being named All-Region as she was a second team selection last year.

Serena played all 41 games for the Red Dragons, starting 40 mainly behind the plate. She recorded a .919 fielding percentage and caught eight runners stealing, tied for second most in the SUNYAC. Serena, who was also named to the All-SUNYAC first team, was third on the team with a .389 batting average, and led the conference in doubles (18), was second in home runs (4), fourth in RBI (35) and slugging percentage (.618), and seventh in hits (51).

Haley started all 41 games for Oneonta in the outfield and finished the season as one of nine conference players with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage off 51 opportunities. She led the team with a .437 batting average, .468 on-base percentage, 52 hits and 32 runs scored. The All-SUNYAC first teamer was second in the conference in batting average, and sixth in on-base percentage, hits, and runs. Haley also had 12 stolen bases and two RBI for the Red Dragons.

Cartier started 25 of 33 games this season for the Red Dragons as an outfielder or designated player and joined Haley with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage off six put outs. Cartier was second on the team with a .392 batting average, which was 11th best in the conference, second on the team in on-base percentage (.417) and third in slugging percentage (.519), tallying four doubles and three triples. She had 18 RBI, scored 17 times, and stole five bases.

Twenty-three teams had three players chosen, including Oneonta and SUNY New Paltz. NFCA member coaches nominate and vote for winners in their respective region. All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 31.

The Red Dragons ended the season 18-22-1 and finished 1-2 in the SUNYAC tournament.
