NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta softball team's season came to an end in the SUNYAC Tournament as they fell to Buffalo State, 6-3, Friday afternoon. Junior
Victoria Hussey (Nesconset/Smithtown East) finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and senior
Adriana Fiori (Newtown, CT/Brookfield) went 2-for-3. The Red Dragons finished the season 18-22-1 overall.
Kayla Wolinski put Buffalo State on the board in the bottom of the first with a single that scored Oriana Castello, then extended the Bengals lead to three in the second with a two-run single. Mya Hurley made it 4-0 in the third off a single to center field. Â
Oneonta started a run in the fourth with a couple singles from sophomore
Julia Serena (White Plains/Valhalla) and graduate student
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford). After senior
Marissa Nagel (Averill Park/Averill Park) reached on a fielder's choice that put out Palmatier, Hussey doubled to left field to score Serena and Nagel, cutting the deficit to 4-2. Â
Freshman
Abigail Silliman (Rensselear, N.Y./Columbia) and Fiori led the top of the fifth off with a walk and a single, before junior
Sara Cartier (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) advanced them 60 feet with a sacrifice bunt. Senior
Kayla Young (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) came in to pinch hit and brought in Silliman with a sacrifice fly. The inning ended on a fly out before Fiori could score the tying run. Â
The Bengals tallied a couple runs in the sixth with an RBI single from Wolinski and an RBI double from Caitlyn Parsons, extending their lead to 6-3. Â
Oneonta was down to their final out when Fiori hit a single to left field to keep them alive, however the game ended on the next at-bat with a foul fly out. Â
Junior
Marissa Dionisio (Sayville/Sayville) (6-11) pitched the first 2.1 innings and allowed four runs off 10 hits. Sophomore
Cadence Brennan (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) pitched 3.2 innings, struck out one, and allowed two runs off five hits. Â
Madison Lucas (14-6) received the win after pitching 4.0 innings, allowing three runs off five hits.Â
