GORHAM, Me. -- The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team took fifth place out of 13 teams in the Ted Reese Invitational at the University of Southern Maine, Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons earned fifth with 72.5 points while the tournament winner Castleton finished with 173 points. Sophomores

Carson LiCastri (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow High School), junior
Danny Poggi (West Islip/West Islip), and senior
Nino Prisco (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) all finished top-six in their respective weight classes. Â
In the 184-class, Ryan won three straight matches to get to the final. He recorded a 59 second fall in his first matchup, a 55 second pin against Southern Maine's Michael Sanchez, then advanced to the first-place match with an 11-0 major decision over Coast Guard's Kenneth Marra. Ryan finished second in the division, Castleton's Sampson Wilkins registered a takedown to go up 5-1 with 20 seconds left in the final and eventually won a 5-2 decision. Â
LiCastri competed in the 197-class and started the day with a 1:40 fall against Plymouth State's Michael Moussa and a 1:22 pin against Nicolas LeSieur of Worcester Polytechnic. He dropped a 9-2 decision in the semi-finals to the eventual winner, Castleton's Darby Mcluaghlin Jr and was placed in the consolation semifinals. LiCastri pinned Spartan's Stephen Jennings in 50 seconds to advance to the third-place match where he won a 12-3 major decision against Maine Maritime Academy's Dillion Worster. Â
Poggi won his first match in the 133-class with a 22-2 tech fall with three four-point near falls versus Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He moved to the consolation bracket where he won a 14-2 major decision over Coast Guard's Joey Martin and a 17-6 major decision over Jason Guglietta. After he fell in the consolation semi-finals, Poggi was placed in the fifth-place match and defeated American International College's Aaron Morocho in a 4-2 decision. Â
Prisco wrestled in the 184-class and won his first match against New Hampshire's Ryan McCullough via pin at 2:08. He fell to the eventual winner Wilkins and moved to the consolation side where he pinned Castleton's Logan Frank in 30 seconds, won a 12-9 decision against Markys Lissaint, then beat teammate and sophomore
Nicholas Aliani (Bayshore, NY/West Islip) with a 1:45 fall. Prisco lost an 11-4 decision in the consolation semifinals and dropped the fifth-place match via no contest, earning sixth place. Â
Freshman
Cameron Hinchcliff (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) and junior
Kennith Jackson (New Orleans, LA/) both recorded two pins at 125 and Heavyweight, respectively. Freshman
Phillip Venne (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore), senior
Adonis Morano (Middletown, NY/Middletown), and Aliani picked up two wins apiece.
The Red Dragons are back in action Saturday in Chase Gym for the first time this season and for Senior Day. They'll host Utica, Keystone, and Ulster in a Quad Meet starting at 12 pm.
