Wrestling Opens Season at Lycoming Invitational

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team opened their 2023-24 season at the Lycoming Invitational on Sunday. The non-scoring invitational was split up for freshmen and sophomores to wrestle one another, while the juniors and seniors battled each other. The other schools that competed along with Oneonta at Lycoming were Averett, Cortland, Otterbein, St. John Fisher, and Utica.  

Freshman Billy Colloca (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon Senior High), sophomore Aydin DeForest (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) and junior Jack Ryan (Trumbull, CT/) all recorded three victories. Colloca started his career as a Red Dragon on a high note at 125 with two pins against Utica's Marco Milankovic at 1:24 for his first victory then Pioneers James Post in 31 seconds. He then won an 11-1 decision against St. John Fisher's Carl Santariello. At 165, DeForest finished with two pins against Utica's Anthony Kelly near the end of the first period at 2:59 then Lycoming's Wyatt Frawley at 4:38. He ended the day with a 14-3 major decision over Cortland's Cole Wheet. Ryan competed at 184 and started off with a 15-0 tech fall against Cortland's Tyler Goodemote. He kept it rolling and pinned Otterbein's Cade Holmes in 38 seconds and Kyle De Moss at 2:01.

The Red Dragons had freshman Cameron Hincliff at 125 and sophomore Carson LiCastri (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow High School) at 197 record two wins via pin in their debuts. Freshman Mason Rappold () and senior Noah Kennedy (Greene/Greene) each picked up two wins with one pin, while freshman Ocean Rados (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester High School) and junior Danny Poggi (West Islip/West Islip) both had two wins with a tech fall victory. Rappold's first victory was a 3:53 pin against Otterbein's Carter Mottley, and Rados' first win came off a 1-0 decision where he scored an escape in the final 30 seconds against Lycoming's Cael Owen.

Seniors James DeLucia (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), Jhordyn Innocent (), and junior Anderson Klosner (Ilion/Central Valley Academy) recorded two victories in the invitational. DeLucia at 184 and Klosner at 149 had one of their two victories via major decision, while Innocent walked away with two decisions in 285.  

Juniors Kennith Jackson (New Orleans, LA/), Giovanni Russo (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas), Nicholas Sergi (Northport, NY/Northport), and seniors Santos Ocasio (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) and Adonis Morano (Middletown, NY/Middletown) all recorded a pin in their respective brackets. Junior Esdras Ramos (Philipsburg, NJ/Sachem North) had a tech fall win at 157 and junior Joel Zea (Queens, NY/Thomas Edison) won a decision at 174. Freshman Phillip Venne (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) defeated Lycoming's Shane Perry in a 10-9 decision for his first collegiate win at 141. He was down a point going into the last period then scored an escape and a takedown for the win.

The Red Dragons are back in action Sunday for the Electric City Duals in Scranton, PA starting at 10 am.
