13 Different Red Dragons Score in Victory Over Blue Devils

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- A 24-7 third quarter gave the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team a commanding lead against Fredonia State that turned into a 62-41 conference victory, Friday evening. Junior Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington) had the game-high 10 points as the Red Dragons had 13 different players score and improved to 13-5 on the season with an 8-3 SUNYAC record. The Blue Devils are now 4-13 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

Fredonia jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the contest, however Oneonta turned it around and scored the next 10. Senior Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) found graduate student Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) for a driving layup then drove into the paint herself to lay it in. Junior Jenna Harclerode (Sayville/Sayville) and sophomore Sophia Wakin (Delhi/Delaware Academy) each made a basket in the paint before sophomore Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) capped the run off with across paint finish at 1:50. Caitlin Snyder broke a six-minute scoreless slump for the Blue Devils with a 1:27 in the first, and Stephens ended the quarter with a triple from the wing for a 13-7 Red Dragon lead.

Senior Meg Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) opened the second with a three-pointer and later Harclerode stole the ball and hit a jumper to give Oneonta an 18-7 advantage at 7:20 in the period. Fredonia would go on a 12-2 run with multiple scorers to bring themselves within one with 2:26 left in the half. Oneonta got their lead back up to nine with a pair of free throws from Dobrovosky and a couple of three-pointers from Stephens and sophomore Kennady Amo (Cape Vincent/Thousand Islands). Renee Park split a pair at the line to trim the Red Dragons lead to 28-20 heading into the second half.

Oneonta broke the game open with a 24-7 third quarter. Culeton and sophomore Nadia Brown (Troy/Troy) started the run with a couple layups, Waykin led the team with six points in the quarter, Dobrovosky and Harclerode each added four, and graduate student Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) capped it off with a jumper from the corner to give the Red Dragons a 52-27 lead.

In the final 10 minutes, Fredonia only got to within 18 points. During the fourth, sophomore Molly Coyne (Syracuse/West Genesee) hit two free throws, junior Caitlin Mullin (Rockaway Beach/Xaverian) knocked down a triple at the top of the arc, and freshman Lidia Boucher (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central High School) recorded five points, including the last basket for the 62-41 final.
