A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team was defeated in their series opener against New Paltz 6-4, Friday afternoon. The Red Dragons dropped to 8-21 overall and 2-11 in the conference, while the Hawks improved to 12-13 overall and 4-3 in conference. Â
The Inside Story
Oneonta had an opportunity to score in the first with two outs and the bases loaded but came up empty after a strikeout.
New Paltz obtained the lead in the top of the second with a solo home run from Dean Stalzer. Â
Stalzer hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning and extended the Hawks lead to four. Â
Junior
Liam Kaseta (Somers/Somers) started the bottom half of the sixth reaching base after a fielding error by the catcher. Junior
Sean Liquori (Thiells/North Rockland) brought in Kaseta with a deep double to centerfield. Following Liquori, freshman
Anthony Foglia (Somers/North Salem) hit a no-doubt, first collegiate, home run over right field and brought the Red Dragons to within one. Â
New Paltz quickly gave themselves a little breathing room in the seventh with a pair of runs. Tommy Kreider hit a double that hugged the right field line to score Leo Alvarez, and Kreider touched home after Joe Patane singled up the middle.
Oneonta recorded one more run in the eighth when Foglia hit a double to left center to score Liquori but they could not get closer.
Just the Stats
Liquori finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and junior
Jake Barrett (Hauppauge/St. Anthony's) went 3-for-5. Foglia ended the day 2-for-3, three RBI and a home run.
Sophomore
Michael Sadowski (Queens/Queens Metropolitan) received the loss after pitching 6.2 innings, allowing six runs off eight hits, and struck out three. Sophomores
Kyle Rosenberger (Montgomery/Valley Central) and
Matthew Russo (Poughquag/Arlington) pitched the final 2.1 innings, with Rosenberger striking out three. Â

The Red Dragons will wrap up the series tomorrow between the Hawks with a doubleheader starting at noon.Â
