A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta softball team wrapped up its southern trip today with two more wins against Wisconsin-Superior and Alfred State. The Red Dragons have now won six straight and will return home 8-4 overall. Oneonta had an extremely successful trip compiling a 7-1 record.

The Inside Story
Game 1 – Oneonta 5, Wisconsin-Superior 4
Â
For the second time this week, Oneonta came-from-behind and won a game in its last at-bat. The Red Dragons trailed 4-0 early and fought its way back to rally for a victory.

Oneonta trailed 4-0 entering the home half of the third inning. Superior got off to a quick start scoring three runs in the top of the first and then adding a single run in the third.

Oneonta began its comeback in the bottom of third scoring one run to pull within three runs. With one out, junior
Adriana Fiori (Newtown, CT/Brookfield) reached on an infield single and then stole second to move into scoring position. She advanced to third on a ground out by senior
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South). Fiori scored on a single through the left side by sophomore
Gianna Cancelleri (Naples, FL/Washingtonville (NY)).

In the home half of the fourth, Oneonta plated three runs to tie the game at four runs apiece. The big hit in the inning was a two-run double off the bat of sophomore
Sara Cartier (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) that scored classmate
Tori Brower (West Islip/West Islip) and freshman Stephanie Mangone. Brower was inserted as a pinch-runner for freshman
Julia Serena (White Plains/Valhalla) who led off the inning with a sharp single to left field. Cartier then scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Fiori.

Oneonta didn't waste too much time in the seventh to walk-off with its win. With one out, Serena a senior
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) hit back-to-back doubles which ended the game.

Freshman
Cadence Brennan (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) only had to throw one pitch in the top of the seventh to pick up her first collegiate victory. Brennan entered the game in relief of senior
Kathryn Davies (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional), who started, came out, and reentered in the fifth inning. Brennan came in with the bases loaded and needed only one pitch to retire the first batter she faced.

Davies was relieved with one out in the first by freshman
Angelina Scalere (Ardsley/Ardsley). Scalere threw four complete innings allowing four hits, one earned run while recording four strikeouts.

When Davies reentered in the fifth, she recorded three strikeouts in 2-1/3rd innings.

Game 2 – Oneonta 10, Alfred State 2 (5 innings)

In today's final game, Oneonta posted four runs in the third inning and three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Alfred (3-7) scored single runs in the second and third innings.

Oneonta's third inning started with back-to-back singles by sophomore
Aysia Oliver (Brentwood/Brentwood) and Fiori. Both runners moved into scoring position on a flyout to center field by Koch and then came around to score on another big hit by Cancelleri.

The inning continued when Cancelleri stole second before scoring on an RBI single by junior
Marissa Nagel (Averill Park/Averill Park). Oneonta's final run scored on a throwing error by the shortstop.

In the fourth, Koch drove in Fiori from second base with an RBI double. Koch scored on a ground out by Nagel. Serena drove in Cancelleri with the final run of the inning.

Koch drove in another two runs in the fifth inning scoring Fiori and Oliver. Koch scored off an RBI single to center field by Nagel.

Sophomore
Lauren Weber (Sayville/Sayville) picked up her fourth win of the spring in relief of starter
Marissa Dionisio (Sayville/Sayville). Weber tossed 2-2/3rds of scoreless relief recording three strikeouts.

Just the Stats
Koch paced the offense today with five hits to go with three runs batted in. Cancelleri had four hits and three RBIs. Fiori was 3-for-3 with three runs against Alfred while Nagel had a pair of hits.

What's Next
Oneonta is scheduled to play its first northern doubleheader at home on its new turf field next Wednesday, Mar. 23 versus Rensselaer beginning at 3pm.
