Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball closes out regular season with home win

Red Dragons travel to Buffalo State Tuesday night

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team ended its regular season today with a home victory over Plattsburgh 50-29.  The win for the Red Dragons puts their final regular season record at 13-12 overall while completing a 10-8 season in the SUNYAC.

The Inside Story
Oneonta had the game well in hand entering the fourth quarter.  A pair of Red Dragons reached double figures led by junior Meg Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham), who came off the bench to pour in 15 points, all from long range.  She was joined by freshman Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) who scored 10 points.  On Senior Day, Oneonta's lone senior Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) celebrated by collecting a career high 10 rebounds.

Neither team scored for the first 5:30 of the game going a combined 0-12.  Nardelli finally got things started by burying a three-pointer giving Oneonta a 3-0 lead.  Nardelli would drain two more from behind the arc in the quarter and classmate Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) would add five points, as the Red Dragons took a 14-2 lead after the opening quarter of play.

Plattsburgh (7-18, 4-14 SUNYAC) regrouped in the second quarter outscoring Oneonta 13-8 to cut into Oneonta advantage.  Freshman Peyton Couture led the way with six points in the quarter for the Cardinals.

Oneonta reestablished its control in the third quarter outscoring Plattsburgh 14-6 to push its lead back to 15 points entering the final quarter.  Zuntag led the way with six points.

Just the Stats
Oneonta dominated on the glass today outrebounding Plattsburgh 50-29 overall including 18-11 on the offensive end.  The Red Dragons' reserves also had a big game outscoring the Cardinals' bench 22-2.

What's Next
Oneonta has earned the No. 5 seed for the SUNYAC tournament, which begins this coming Tuesday.  The Red Dragons will travel to Buffalo State for its quarterfinal match up beginning at 7pm.  The two teams split their season series with each team winning on the other's court.
