Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse cruises past New Paltz to remain undefeated

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team scored six unanswered goals in the opening 14 minutes of the game en route to a 12-3 victory against visiting New Paltz today.  The win for the Red Dragons keeps them undefeated at 3-0 and on top of the SUNYAC East Division while the Hawks remain winless at 0-4.

"It was good to get another win today," said Head Coach Pete Owens.  "Not our cleanest effort, but as always, our team played hard.  I think they had a quality defensive game plan and their goalie supported them.  On that note, our defensive unit turned in yet another great effort.  The credit belongs to Coach Holland and our seniors."

The Inside Story
Oneonta led 7-1 after the first period outshooting New Paltz 15-2.  Senior Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) led the attack with three goals including one as time expired in the period.  Freshman Luke Maslin (Owego/Owego Free Academy) chipped in with a pair of goals in the opening 15 minutes.

The Red Dragons tacked on three goals in the second period while holding the Hawks scoreless to grab a comfortable 10-1 lead at the break.  Senior Michael Benasutti (Centereach/Centereach) and sophomore Jake Dominikoski (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) each scored their first goals of the season while McRae scored his fourth goal of the game to cap the scoring in the period.

The two teams each scored two goals over the final 30 minutes of the game for the final.  The game's final goal was a man down score by Zach Schmidt of New Paltz.

Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the game with a 44-24 shot advantage while collecting 32 ground balls to New Paltz's 14.  Oneonta won 13-of-16 faceoffs led by junior Timothy Shanley (West Hempstead/West Hempstead) who recorded 11 wins.

Junior goalie Jordan Berson (Old Bethpage/JFK) recorded four saves in running his record to 3-0.  New Paltz freshman goalie Ryan Steinhart made 17 stops.
