A Quick Look
Senior
Meaghan Raleigh (Endwell/Maine Endwell) took the second pitch she saw in the bottom of the seventh and deposited it over the left field fence to lead the SUNY Oneonta softball team to a home doubleheader sweep versus Union today. The solo shot gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 victory in game 2 after winning the opener 4-1. The two wins raised their record to 9-5 overall while Union left town 3-11 overall.

The Inside Story
Game 2 was a pitcher's duel between freshman
Lauren Weber (Sayville/Sayville) of Oneonta and Makayla Koehler of Union. Weber allowed just five hits and struck out a pair for her seven innings while Koehler had identical numbers except for the one run. The complete game shutout win for Weber was the first of her career and raised her record to 3-2 overall. Weber retired the first six batters she faced before allowing her first hit.
Â
The home run for Raleigh capped a three-hit game that also included a double in the second inning.
Â
In the opener, junior
Kathryn Davies (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional) threw three scoreless innings before giving way to freshman
Marissa Dionisio (Sayville/Sayville) who finished the game to earn her fourth win of the season. Davies allowed one hit and struck out one while Dionisio allowed five hits with one strikeout.
Â
Sophomore
Anna Ciccarelli (Guilderland/Guilderland) led the offense with three hits while junior
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) and rookie
Gianna Cancelleri (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) had two hits each.
Â
The Red Dragons plated a single run in the second, two in the third and one more in the sixth. Palmatier had a two-out single that drove in senior
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) with the second run of the inning. Cancelleri led off the inning with a double and scored the first run on a bunt single that allowed her to score when no one covered the plate for Union.
Â
Palmatier scored the game's first run scoring from third base after Raleigh was thrown out trying to steal second.
Â
In the sixth, Oneonta loaded the bases with one out and scored its run on a pinch-hit, RBI single by freshman
Aysia Oliver (Brentwood/Brentwood) that scored Raleigh.
