Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dobrovosky leads women's basketball past Mount St. Mary

A Quick Look
Junior guard Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) scored a game-high 20 points while also grabbing 11 boards to lead the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team to a 60-49 non-conference victory against visiting Mount St. Mary.  The win was the second straight for the Red Dragons who are now 2-4 overall.  The loss for the Knights drops them to 4-2 overall.

The Inside Story
The score was all even at the end of the third period 40-40.  Oneonta took advantage of nine Knight turnovers and a 2-for-17 shooting performance to win going away.  The Red Dragons converted the nine turnovers into seven points including six on the break.

Junior Margaret Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) came off the bench and buried a couple of three-pointers to help the cause in the final quarter.  Freshman point guard Nadia Brown (Troy/Troy) scored five of her seven points in the fourth quarter.

The game started as if Oneonta would run the Knights out of the building early scoring the game's first nine points before the visitors got on the scoreboard.  The Red Dragons didn't miss many shots in the opening quarter racing out to a 21-9 advantage entering the second quarter.

Trailing 26-9, which would be the largest lead of the game for Oneonta, Mount St. Mary seized the momentum scoring 13 unanswered points to cut Oneonta's lead back to just four points with just under five minutes to go in the quarter.  Lauren Desrats converted a layup off a Fastbreak turnover to cap the run.  Oneonta carried a 30-26 lead into halftime.

The Knights continued its comeback effort and finally knotted the score at 36 apiece when Annie Keenan made the first of two free throws.  The Knights forced a 10-second backcourt violation and then a basket by Morina Bojka gave them its first lead of the game.  The two teams exchanged baskets over the final 2:57 to send the game to the final quarter tied at 40-40.

Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the game shooting an even 40 percent from the floor led by Dobrovosky's 9-for-12 performance.  The Red Dragons outrebounded the Knights 52-40.

The Knights had a pair of players in double figures led by Bojka who scored a team high 16 points.  Keenan finished the contest with 11 boards.
