Baseball wraps up season with setback to Rhodes

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team wrapped up their season with an 11-5 loss to Nationally Ranked Rhodes College Saturday morning at Chain of Lakes Stadium. The Red Dragons finish the season with a record of 4-7.

The Inside Story
After falling behind early on a Rhodes home run in the top of the first, Oneonta tied the game when Brandon Laventure scored on an error in the bottom of the inning. The Red Dragons took the lead in the bottom of the second on a David Deberardinis (Fishkill/John Jay) RBI single to center. Rhodes took the lead back with a pair of runs in top of third and one in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. The Red Dragons got a couple runs back in bottom of the fourth to knot the game at 4-4 on a two-run home run to left by Jake Barrett (Smithtown/St. Anthony's).

The Lynx broke the game open with four runs on five hits in the top of the fifth to take an 8-4 advantage. The Red Dragons were able to scratch across a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Sean McGlynn (New Hartford/New Hartford).

David Deberardinis (Fishkill/John Jay), Jake Barrett (Smithtown/St. Anthony's) and James Ceparano (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) finished with two hits apiece. Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) and James Ceparano (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) also scored two runs apiece in the loss. David Deberardinis (Fishkill/John Jay) wrapped up is collegiate career on the mound, tossing eight and two thirds, striking out 13 Lynx batters.
