A Quick Look
Senior
Alyssa Bluethgen (Commack/Commack) tossed a three-hit shutout against Wilmington College (OH) to lead the SUNY Oneonta softball team to a split of two games on day 3 in Florida. The Red Dragons fell to Coast Guard 3-1 in the late game.
Â
The Inside Story
Against Wilmington, Bluethgen outdueled the Quakers starter, who threw a one-hitter herself in taking the loss. Bluethgen struck out seven Quakers and didn't allow a baserunner to reach second base in picking up her fourth win of the season.
Â
Oneonta (6-4) entered the bottom of the sixth inning without a hit before they rallied to score the lone run of the game.
Â
It started with a strikeout of
Jade Meehan (Halcottsville/Roxbury Central), but she reached on a passed ball to put her at first base. She then stole second and third before coming home on a throwing error by the Wilmington catcher of third.
Â
Bluethgen then retired the Quakers in order in the top of the seventh including two via strikeout.
Â
Against Coast Guard, a pair of RBI singles from Audrey Bartz and Selena Serna gave the Bears an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Bartz drove in another run in the second to increase the advantage to 3-0.
Â
Oneonta scored its lone run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by freshman
Gianna DiGiovanni (Wantagh/Sacred Heart Academy). Junior
Meaghan Raleigh (Endwell/Maine Endwell) scored the run after leading off the inning with a single and moving to second on a ground out.
Â
Just the Stats
The Red Dragons did collect seven hits versus Coast Guard including a pair by senior
Brooke Corbett (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central). Corbett also broke up the no-hitter against Wilmington with a sharp single in the sixth inning after Oneonta scored its run.
