Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lipshie nets pair in women's soccer 3-2 win against Vassar

A Quick Look
Senior Seaver Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) scored a pair of goals including the game-winner to lead SUNY Oneonta women's soccer to a 3-2 win today at home against Vassar College.  The win for the Red Dragons was its second straight, as they move to 2-1-1 overall in the young season.

The Inside Story
Lipshie got Oneonta started in the 23rd minute when she was able to collect a short crossing pass from classmate Christina Kornfeld (Mount Sinai/Miller Place).  Lipshie took one touch before sending a shot along the ground that went past a diving Vassar Keeper.

Freshman Kelsey Smith (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) made it 2-0 in favor of the Red Dragons scoring her first collegiate goal in the 36th minute.  Smith controlled the ball out on the left flank and let fly a shot from about 30 yards out that sailed over an outstretched keeper into the back of the net.

Less than two minutes later, the Brewers cut its deficit in half on a goal by Emma Tanner making the score 2-1 heading into the break.

Lipshie struck again in the 55th minute on a direct kick from out beyond the right flank.  Lipshie sent a ball into the box where it skipped by the Vassar keeper who appeared to be screened on the shot.

The Brewers made the game interesting with a goal 19 seconds later when a ball deflected off an Oneonta defender on a ball sent across by Skylar Herrera-Ross.

Vassar earned a couple of corner kicks in the final two minutes but was unable to get the equalizer as time expired for the Oneonta victory.

Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the game with a slight 16-15 edge in shots.  Junior Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) came up with eight saves today for Oneonta while her counterpart Fiona Walsh made seven stops.
