Game Recap: Softball |

Softball clipped by No. 20 Rensselaer

Game 2 called because of darkness

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta softball team had No. 20 Rensselaer on the ropes before they found a way to pull out a 4-3 win today in the bottom of the seventh inning in game 1 of a scheduled doubleheader.  Because of darkness, game 2 was called in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied 5-5.  Due to the game not reaching an official game, by rule neither team gets credit for playing the game.

RPI scored first in today's contest with a single run in the bottom of the first inning when Jessica Torch came around to score on a throwing error by catcher Selena Ruiz (Westbury/W.T. Clarke).

Oneonta still trailed 1-0 entering the fifth inning.  Sophomore Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) finally got the Red Dragons on the scoreboard coming through with an RBI single to drive in junior Jade Meehan (Halcottsville/Roxbury Central) with an unearned run to tie the score.

Senior Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley) smacked a two-run homer in the seventh to give the Red Dragons a 3-1 lead.  Unfortunately, a bases clearing hit in the bottom of the inning with two outs gave the Engineers a 4-3 victory.

Just the Stats
Oneonta collected seven hits including two each by Koch and freshman Olivia Murray (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa).  Koch also had a stolen base as did Meehan.

Junior Alyssa Bluethgen (Commack/Commack) took the tough loss striking out seven in 6-2/3 innings.
