A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta softball team managed a split of its doubleheader today versus Plattsburgh. The Red Dragons won game 1, 7-5 but dropped game 2 10-3. Highlighting senior day was senior

The Inside Story
Oneonta (13-16-1, 8-6 SUNYAC) jumped all over the Plattsburgh starter scoring six runs in the first two innings. Del Genio started things off with a sharp single and then came around to score the first run on an RBI double by classmate
Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley). A couple of batters later, the Red Dragons had the bases loaded and Sabatino scored on a wild pitch.
Â
Oneonta took advantage of a couple of Plattsburgh (11-13, 5-5 SUNYAC) errors in the second inning to add four more runs to its lead. The first two runs scored on an error by the left fielder on a single by Del Genio, which allowed her to reach third base. Del Genio scored on an RBI single by
Selena Ruiz (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) and Ruiz would score the final run of the inning on a double by sophomore
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South).
Â
Four singles led to three runs in the top of the fourth inning for the Cardinals. Haleigh Agans hit a two-run single that scored both Jennifer Groat and Anna Fisher.
Â
The duo of Del Genio and Sabatino struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning giving Oneonta another run. Del Genio walked to leadoff the inning, was sacrificed to second base by Ruiz, went to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a single to left field by Sabatino.
Â
The Cardinals rallied in the seventh loading the bases with no outs. Bella Spadinger scored on a ground out by Kaitlyn Preiss with the first run of the seventh. Plattsburgh scored one final run with two outs before a force play at third base ended the game.
Â
Junior
Alyssa Bluethgen (Commack/Commack) picked up her third win of the week to even her season record at 8-8 overall.
Â
In game 2, the Cardinals plated three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to break the game open. The big hit for Plattsburgh came in the fourth inning when Spadinger hit a grand slam over the left field fence making the score 8-1. The Cardinals added two more runs in the seventh for their final total of 10.
Â
Del Genio secured her spot atop the total base list with a triple in the fourth inning that drove in
Amanda Sexton (Port Jervis/Port Jervis) with Oneonta's first run of the game. Freshman
Madison Capozucca (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) gave the Red Dragons its final runs in the sixth when she hit a two-run shot over the center field fence. The home run for Capozucca was the fourth of her rookie season.
