A Quick Look
Junior
Alyssa Bluethgen (Commack/Commack) was strong and senior
Dana Del Genio (New Hartford/New Hartford) went deep in leading SUNY Oneonta to a split of its doubleheader with New Paltz today at Hudson Valley CC. The Red Dragons won game 2, 3-1, after falling, 1-0, in the first game.
Â
The Inside Story
All of Oneonta's (8-15-1, 3-5 SUNYAC) runs were scored in the first two innings.
Â
Del Genio and classmate
Selena Ruiz (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) started the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles. They both moved up a base on a ground out by classmate
Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley). Del Genio scored the game's first run on a fielder's choice after obstruction was called on the New Paltz catcher.
Â
Del Genio was responsible for both of the runs in the second when she connected for her fourth home run of the season driving in sophomore
Amanda Sexton (Port Jervis/Port Jervis) ahead of her.
Â
Bluethgen, who pitched a complete game in the opener allowing only two hits in the loss, cruised through the first five innings of game 2 before being lifted for classmate
Julia Calabro (Wantagh/St. John the Baptist). Bluethgen reentered the game in the seventh with runners at first and second and no outs. After a single to load the bases, Bluethgen retired the next three batters allowing one run to score to record the win.
