Lezette powers baseball over Wells, 11-3

A Quick Look
Jonathan Lezette (Saugerties/Saugerties) went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI as the SUNY Oneonta baseball team defeated Wells College 11-3 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

The Inside Story
Oneonta (8-8) got on the board in the top of the third when Jonathan Lezette (Saugerties/Saugerties) smacked a solo home run over the left centerfield fence. The Red Dragons added to their lead on a Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) RBI single, scoring David Deberardinis (Fishkill/John Jay). Sean McGlynn (New Hartford/New Hartford) capped off the inning with an RBI single to center, plating Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) to put Oneonta in front 3-0.

After Wells  put on run on the board in the bottom of the third, Jonathan Lezette (Saugerties/Saugerties) began a four-run fourth for the Red Dragons with a two-run homer to right field . David Deberardinis (Fishkill/John Jay) kept the inning going with a single to center, eventually scoring on an error by the Wells outfielder on a Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) hit. With Lamonica on third, Vincent Prisco (Northport/Saint Dominic) capped off the inning with an RBI groundout to give the Red Dragons a 7-1 lead.

Leading 7-3 after six innings, the Red Dragons put the game out of reach with a three-run top of the seventh. Mike Graves (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) and Chris Saitch (Kingston/Kingston) got the inning started with back-to-back walks with two out. After both runners advanced with stolen bases, Jonathan Lezette (Saugerties/Saugerties) continued off his stellar day with a two-run single to right, upping the Oneonta lead to 9-3.  Lezette would eventually score on a David Deberardinis (Fishkill/John Jay) single to make it 10-3.  In the top of the ninth, Jonathan Lezette (Saugerties/Saugerties) capped off his six RBI game with a sacrifice fly, scoring Brandon LaVenture (Schenectady/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) with the final run of the game.

David Deberardinis (Fishkill/John Jay) finished the game going 4-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) had a pair of hits, two runs scored and an RBI while James Zupo (Massapequa/Massapequa) and Sean McGlynn (New Hartford/New Hartford) had two hits apiece.

Ryan Fay (Carmel/Carmel High School) was credited with his second win of the season after allowing one run on one hit while striking out three in three innings of work.  Michael Dunne (Stony Point/Albertus Magnus) and Joseph Canonaco (Briarcliff Manor/Briarcliff) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
