Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball clipped by Hartwick

A Quick Look
A lay up by Maggie Kirby with seven seconds left in the game proved to be the difference for the host Hartwick Hawks, as they clipped SUNY Oneonta 56-54 in non-conference women's basketball action tonight.

The Inside Story
The fourth quarter saw four ties and two lead changes, as neither team could pull away.  The final basket came off an offensive rebound for Hartwick (3-2) after senior Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) tied the game at 54 apiece on a trey with 17 seconds remaining.  Corso finished the game with 16 points off the bench to lead Oneonta.

Oneonta's last lead came at the 7:48 mark of the quarter when freshman Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) made a pair of free throws.  The Hawks enjoyed a three-point lead on four occasions in the final quarter.

Hartwick held a slim 11-9 lead after the first quarter on a basket in the final minute by Mary Schoenherr.  Neither team scored for the first 2:30 until Corso made 1-of-2 free throws to put Oneonta (2-3) on the scoreboard.

A 12-1 run by the Hawks in the second quarter gave them the largest lead by either team for the game at 23-15 with 1:32 left in the quarter.  A pair of threes by Molly Kirby and Giulianna Pritchard fueled the run.  The Red Dragons scored five unanswered points to close the quarter and pull within three points entering halftime.

A three-pointer by senior Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) knotted the score at 27 apiece early in the third quarter.  The Hawks regained the lead and maintained it over the final eight minutes.  Allrich made a lay up to end the quarter and pull Oneonta to within a bucket.

Just the Stats
The only statistical difference in tonight's game was at the free throw line where Hartwick converted 15 and Oneonta 11.  The Red Dragons made one more field goal (18) than the Hawks (17) while both teams made seven shots from behind the arc.

The Hawks had four players reach double figures led by Kelly Pine's 16 points.

What's Next
Oneonta will now break for Thanksgiving before getting back into action on Friday, Dec. 6 at home against Plattsburgh.
