Farmingdale, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team totally shut down the Farmingdale Rams yesterday by a score of 9-2 to pick up its second straight victory. The win put the Red Dragons one game above the .500 mark at 2-1 in the early season while the Rams fell to 2-2.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Red Dragons took a 1-0 lead early in the second on an unassisted goal from junior attack
Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East). With 2:39 remaining in the first half, a
Hunter DeLuca (Medford/Patchogue Medford) score off the feed from junior attack
Michael Cegielski (Yorktown Heights/Somers) put Oneonta on top, 2-0. Only 20 seconds later, a man-up goal by Cegielski gave Oneonta a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Over the opening 9:36 of the third quarter, the Red Dragons recorded a goal by Panno and a pair from junior attack
Thomas Moore (Rockville Centre/South Side/Rockville Centre ) to go out in front, 6-0. With 4:14 on the clock, Farmingdale broke the scoreless drought and tallied its first goal of the day. Panno answered with his third goal of the game to bring the score to 7-1 heading into the fourth. Oneonta outscored Farmingdale State 2-1 in the final quarter to cap off the 9-2 victory.
Moore matched Panno with three goals in the contest while DeLuca added two assists to his one goal for three points. Sophomore
Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) was solid once again in goal for the Red Dragons recording 15 saves to move to 2-0 on the season.
Oneonta will have a week off before hosting FDU-Florham next Tuesday beginning at 4pm.
