Game 1 – Oneonta 6, Muhlenberg 5
The Red Dragons didn't waste any time in posting a five-spot in the top of the first inning. The table-setters of leadoff hitter
Dana Del Genio (New Hartford/New Hartford) and the No. 2 batter
Selena Ruiz (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) got things going reaching base on back-to-back singles. Senior
Cori McFall (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) then brought them home with a one-out triple to right field. McFall didn't stay on third long, as junior
Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley) drove her in with a single up the middle.
Â
The final two runs of the inning were aided by a couple of miscues by Muhlenberg. A fielding error by the shortstop allowed Sabatino to reach second and
Amanda Sexton (Port Jervis/Port Jervis) to get to first base. The next batter was
Brooke Corbett (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) who laid down a bunt to move the runners, but ended up reaching on a muffed throw by the second baseman. Sabatino scored on the play and Sexton went to third.Â
Bailey Schwark (Port Ewen/Kingston) drove in Sexton with a ground out to first base.
Â
Muhlenberg scored a single run in the bottom of the first on a two-out single by Kristy Selby. The Mules added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by Kristina Qualben and Sophie Chong.
Â
The Red Dragons plated a single run in the home half of the sixth on an RBI single by freshman
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) that drove in Del Genio.
Â
