In a game that saw 13 lead changes, the final one came with 1:04 remaining in the game when host SUNY Geneseo grabbed a 53-52 lead enroute to a 58-52 win against SUNY Oneonta in the SUNYAC championship game. The Knights' victory gave them the automatic berth into the NCAA tournament while the loss for Oneonta (19-8) brings its season to a close.

Oneonta had a couple of opportunities to gain the lead in the final minute, but couldn't connect on a pair of three-point attempts. Geneseo (25-2) secured its victory converting 5-of-6 free throws.

The junior duo of
Madeline Frank (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) and
Teresa Anken (Rome/Rome Free Academy) led Oneonta today with 16 and 11 points respectively. Anken and sophomore
Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Corso finished today's game with eight points and five rebounds.

The quarter that affected the score the most was the second where Geneseo outscored Oneonta 14-7. The Red Dragons shot an even 50 percent in the opening quarter and had an 18-15 lead after one quarter of play. Frank led the way with eight of her 16 points in the opening quarter.

Geneseo gained its halftime lead with a modest 6-2 spurt to end the second quarter. The Red Dragons made only 3-of-15 shots in the second period.

Oneonta battled back in the third quarter outscoring the Knights 16-12. The Red Dragons tied the score early before the two teams took turns with the lead. There score was tied four times in the quarter including at 41 apiece when the quarter ended. Corso buried a three with two seconds left to tie the game.

Neither team budged in the final quarter matching basket for basket. Tournament MVP Kelsey Poplawski scored the basket at 1:04 to give Geneseo a lead that they would not relinquish.

Oneonta outrebounded Geneseo 39-29 including a 13-8 advantage on the offensive end. Sophomore
Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) collected a game-high 12 rebounds for Oneonta. The Red Dragons dished out 14 assists led by Casey, senior
Samantha Lisikatos (Cold Spring/Haldane) and sophomore
Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) who all had three dimes each.
