The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team spotted the Potsdam Bears the first six points of the game before racing past them en route to a lopsided 82-48 win today. It was the final game of the regular season and, with the victory, Oneonta (18-7, 13-5 SUNYAC) earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming conference tournament, which means they will get a first round bye. The Red Dragons will play its semifinal game this coming Friday night at Geneseo, who is the top overall seed and host for the championship weekend.

After falling behind early 6-0, Oneonta scored 15 unanswered points to seize control of the contest. The Bears added a three-pointer in the final minute of the first period, but the Red Dragons held a 15-9 advantage heading to the second quarter. Sophomore
Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) jump-started Oneonta with nine straight points before classmate
Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet) and senior
Samantha Lisikatos (Cold Spring/Haldane) capped the big run with back-to-back threes.

The Red Dragons continued to pull away in the second quarter building its lead to twenty points (40-20) at halftime. Corso and junior
Teresa Anken (Rome/Rome Free Academy) led the way for Oneonta each scoring seven points in the quarter while Lisikatos added five points.

Oneonta pretty much had it in cruise control throughout the second half enabling everyone to get into the game. The reserves tallied 31 points in the contest led by Lisikatos and sophomore
Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) who each scored 10 points. The Red Dragons had a season high five players reach double figures led by Corso's 18 points.

In the game, Oneonta established a single game record of 28 assists, which broke the record of 27 set in January of 2000 against Hartwick College. The 82 points scored in the game was a season high and the 31 points in the third quarter was also a season high.

When Oneonta opens play in this year's SUNYAC tournament, it will be its 27
th appearance overall including 24 straight years. The Red Dragons will be playing in the semifinals for the third time in the last four years and will face the winner of the Cortland/Buffalo State game to be played Tuesday.  Oneonta has won three SUNYAC titles overall with its last coming in 2012.
