Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet) poured in a collegiate career high 22 points today, but the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team fell to SUNY Geneseo 75-58. The loss for the Red Dragons snapped its five-game win streak while keeping them in a tie for second place in the SUNYAC. Oneonta is 16-7 overall and 11-5 in the conference with two games remaining to grab the second spot for the SUNYAC tournament, which would earn them a bye in the opening round. Geneseo (21-2, 16-0 SUNYAC) is already the top seed after clinching the No. 1 spot last night with its victory against New Paltz.

The Red Dragons entered the fourth quarter of today's contest within striking distance at 58-51, but the Knights secured the victory with a 16-7 quarter. Oneonta had fallen behind by as many as 19 points in the third quarter before rallying in the final six minutes to cut its deficit to eight points.

Amalbert led the third quarter burst with seven points including one of her collegiate best four, three-pointers. The freshmen tandem of
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and
Maya Bernsley (Monroe/Monroe Woodbury) scored four points each to contribute to the 15-4 run.

Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) to start the fourth quarter brought the Red Dragons to within six points, but Geneseo scored seven unanswered to push its lead back to 13 points midway through the final period.

The two teams battled to a 17-16 first quarter with Geneseo having the edge. Oneonta fell behind 12-6 with just more than four minutes to go, but ran off seven straight points capped by a Amalbert three to grab a 13-12 lead. A three by sophomore
Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) at the end of the opening quarter pulled the Red Dragons to within one point.

The two teams had it clicking on offense in the second quarter combining for 49 points. Oneonta shot an even 50 percent in the quarter including 3-of-5 from behind the arc. The hosts made 10-of-21 shots in the period including 6-of-10 from long distance. Geneseo held a 46-36 lead at halftime.

Joining Amalbert in double digits today for Oneonta was Corso who scored 10 points.

The Knights had four players in double figures led by Lindsay Halpin who scored 21 points.

Oneonta will conclude the regular season next weekend in the North Country against Potsdam and Plattsburgh.
