Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dominant second half pushes women's soccer past Brockport

The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team completely dominated the second half today en route to a 2-0 shutout of Brockport in SUNYAC action.  The victory earned Oneonta (5-7, 2-4 SUNYAC) three critical points as they battle for a conference tournament spot with three games remaining in conference play.

The Red Dragons outshot Brockport (5-7-1, 2-3-1 SUNYAC) 20-10 in the match including 14-3 in the closing 45 minutes.  Oneonta generated multiple scoring opportunities throughout the second half pushing two past the Brockport keeper.

Oneonta's first goal came in the 63rd minute during one of its sustained attacks inside the box.  Sophomore Micaela Honsinger (New Hartford/New Hartford) collected a loose ball that was rolling outside the box before turning and getting off a low shot that looked like it was going to be saved.  But, junior Kristina Kornfeld moved in front of the keeper just enough to screen her while getting her foot on the shot to redirect it to the back of the goal.

The second goal for the Red Dragons was scored by senior Kelsie Moinzadeh (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in the 82nd minute.  The opportunity came after a long crossing pass from the right flank by Kornfeld which the Brockport keeper tipped away.  Moinzadeh was there to collect the loose ball and got off a shot that deflected off the hands of the diving keeper into the left side of the goal.

Today's first half was pretty even statistically.  Brockport had a slim 7-6 advantage in shots, but Oneonta had the more dangerous chances.  The most dangerous of their opportunities came in the 37th minute when a charging Hannah Kaplan (Smithtown/Hauppauge) headed a shot just over the goal on a bang-bang play.

Freshman Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) picked up the win in goal sharing the shutout with junior Jolene Krom (Sidney/Sidney), who was the starter today for Oneonta.

Kimberly Lubanski made six stops for the Golden Eagles falling to 5-7 on the season.

Oneonta will be home again this coming weekend hosting Plattsburgh on Friday at 4pm and Potsdam on Saturday at 1pm.
