The SUNY Oneonta softball team played its rescheduled games versus Buffalo State on the road today. The Red Dragons bats were kept in check by the Bengal pitching staff as they dropped both games in their doubleheader 5-1 and 6-2.
Â
In today's first game, Buffalo State (7-15, 3-3 SUNYAC) scored a pair of runs in the third and added three more in the fifth. Oneonta's lone run (unearned) came in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by sophomore
Dana Del Genio (New Hartford/New Hartford) that drove in senior
Katie O'Gorman (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa).
Â
O'Gorman and Del Genio were the only Red Dragons to record a hit in the game.
Â
In game 2, a pair of third inning home runs by the Bengals padded its 1-0 lead, as Oneonta (14-6, 4-4 SUNYAC) managed only seven hits including a pair by O'Gorman.
Â
A single by Del Genio to start the fourth inning and a pair of walks to
Marlene Cuevas (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) and pinch hitter
Cori McFall (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) loaded the bases with one out. Senior
Jennifer Brocco (Kingston/Kingston) drove in the first run of the inning with a single and then pinch hitter
Rebecca Wentink (Maybrook/Valley Central) followed with another single to drive in the second run.
Â
Senior pitchers
Sabrina DeAngelis (East Meadow/Kellenberg Memorial) and
Amanda Graziano (Riverhead/Riverhead) each took losses today on the hill for the Red Dragons. DeAngelis fell to 5-2 on the season while Graziano dropped to 5-3.
Â
Oneonta will be on the road again tomorrow when they journey to Schenectady to take on Union College for a doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
