Today's battle for city bragging rights in men's lacrosse came down to the final period after the two squads entered tied 7-7 after three periods of play. In the end, it was Hartwick that squeaked out a 12-11 victory against host SUNY Oneonta in a midweek contest. The loss for the Red Dragons dropped them to 3-4 overall while the win for Hawks pushed them to 4-2.

Junior
Hunter DeLuca (Medford/Patchogue Medford) scored a man-up goal just 14 seconds into the final period to give Oneonta an 8-7 lead. The Hawks countered with three straight to grab a 10-8 lead. Mike Majchrzak, Jake Sachse and Brett Maguire each tallied for Hartwick, who gained its first lead since 1-0 on Sachse's goal at the 11:56 mark.

After an unassisted goal by junior
TJ Kilmetis (Hicksville/Hicksville), Cordell Armstrong and Sachse registered back-to-back goals to put the Hawks ahead 12-9 with 3:11 left in the game.

Trailing by three goals, Oneonta didn't quit and got back to within one goal on consecutive goals by Kilmetis and
Shane Carroll (Poughkeepsie/Arlington). Carroll's goal came with 30 seconds remaining off an assist by DeLuca.

Oneonta won the ensuing faceoff, but was whistled for a turnover with less than 10 seconds left, which gave the ball back to the Hawks, who ran out the clock.

The opening period of play was all Oneonta, as they built a 5-1 lead heading into the second period.Â

The second period went to Hartwick, who scored four goals while allowing just a single goal, but they still trailed 6-5 heading into halftime. Sam Ferguson led the Hawks attack with three goals in the period. Ferguson finished the game with four goals.

Kilmetis led Oneonta today with three goals while eight other players registered one goal for the Red Dragons.

Sophomore
Andrew Helfman (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) made 13 saves in goal for Oneonta while Connor O'Brien made five saves for the Hawks.

Oneonta will be at home this Saturday for its SUNYAC opener versus No. 9 SUNY Cortland. The game is scheduled for a noon faceoff.
