The No. 3 seeded SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team was upended tonight by the No. 6 seeded Brockport Golden Eagles 70-64 in the quarterfinals of the SUNYAC Tournament. A 15-4 closing run by the visiting Golden Eagles over the final 6:23 was the difference in a very close ball game. There was a total of 14 ties and 13 lead changes, but in the end, Brockport (10-16) made three more baskets.
Â
The lone highlight for Oneonta (15-11) tonight was senior
Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) reaching 200 three-point baskets for her career to become the only woman in program history to hit that mark. Playing through an injury that sidelined her for a couple of games, she was the leading scorer for Oneonta tonight finishing with 14 points.
Â
The Golden Eagles had four players in double figures led by Hannah Rehbaum's 19 points. Rehbaum was big down the stretch when Brockport was making its final run scoring six points.
Â
The Red Dragons trailed for most of tonight's game including being down 34-26 at halftime. They began to heat up a bit in the third quarter outscoring Brockport 24-18 to trail by only a bucket entering the fourth period.
Â
A pair of free throws by junior
Samantha Lisikatos (Cold Spring/Haldane) brought Oneonta even at 52 apiece. Lisikatos buried a trey two minutes later to break a 54-54 tie and give Oneonta its first lead since 13-11 in the opening quarter.
Â
A jumper by sophomore
Madeline Frank (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) and a free throw by senior
Sara DiPasquale (Buffalo, NY/Cardinal O'Hara) pushed the Red Dragons' lead to 60-55 setting the stage for Brockport's comeback. A jumper by Schyler Laux at 3:25 gave the Golden Eagles the lead for good.
Â
Brockport shot 50 percent in the first quarter and held a slim 17-15 lead at the end of the period. They led at every quarter and finished the game shooting 45 percent. They finished with a 34-22 advantage in the paint.
