The SUNY Oneonta Women's Basketball team fell to undefeated and nationally ranked No. 19 SUNY Geneseo tonight at home 55-38. The Knights' steady play throughout all four quarters allowed them to gradually pull away from the Red Dragons raising its overall record to 22-0. The victory for Geneseo (15-0 SUNYAC) also clinched the top seed for the conference tournament and the host site for the championship weekend.
Â
Oneonta (13-9, 10-5 SUNYAC) matched basket-for-basket with the Knights in the opening period of play. A three-pointer by senior
Brianna Spector (Philadelphia, PA/Upper Dublin) gave the hosts a 17-14 lead after the first stanza. Oneonta shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening ten minutes including 4-of-7 from behind the arc.
Â
With the score tied at 21 apiece midway through the second quarter, the Knights seized control scoring the final nine points of the half to carry a 30-21 lead into halftime. Oneonta shot just 1-of-9 in the second period scoring only four points.
Â
Geneseo continued to break the game open putting together a 9-2 run to start the third period. The run was capped by a McKenna Brooks layup that put the Knights up 37-23 with 5:35 remaining in the quarter. Brooks finished the game with a double-double scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 boards in 15 minutes off the bench.
Â
A three by freshman
Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) at the 4:44 mark of the third period brought Oneonta to within 11 points, but that would be as close as they would get for the remainder of the contest. Corso led Oneonta tonight with 15 points.
Â
Nine unanswered points by Geneseo midway through the final period put the game out of reach. Kayleigh Cavanaugh joined Brooks in double figures for the Knights with 10 points.
Â
Geneseo outscored Oneonta 22-6 in the paint while turning 16 offensive rebounds into 14 second chance points.

The Red Dragons will play again tomorrow at 4pm against the Brockport Golden Eagles in the Dewar Arena.
