Balanced attack leads women's basketball past Fredonia

The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team defeated Fredonia today 64-58 and, in the process, jumped into second place in the SUNYAC by one-half game over the Blue Devils.  The victory for Oneonta (10-7, 7-3 SUNYAC) completed a weekend sweep in Western New York after having defeated Buffalo State last night.

Today's game was decided in the fourth period where the Red Dragons overcame a small three-point deficit outscoring Fredonia (12-5, 7-4 SUNYAC) 25-16.  Oneonta made 8-of-12 shots including 3-of-6 from behind the arc while converting 6-of-8 free throws in grabbing an important conference win.

A balanced scoring attack today for Oneonta included eight players contributing to the 64 points.  Senior Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) led the Red Dragons with 13 points followed by freshman Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) who added 12 points.  Senior Sara DiPasquale (Buffalo, NY/Cardinal O'Hara) and junior Samantha Lisikatos (Cold Spring/Haldane) combined for 16 points off the bench.

Midway through the final period, Oneonta still trailed by two points until a pair of free throws by rookie Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet) tied the game at 52 apiece with 4:31 remaining.  Oneonta took the lead for good on a layup by DiPasquale at the 4:11 mark after Kathryn Halloran converted 1-of-2 from the line.

The Blue Devils did get to within one point at 58-57 with 35 seconds left, but the Red Dragons made its free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
