Women's Soccer Battles Hamilton to Scoreless Draw

The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team battled visiting Hamilton today to a scoreless draw.  The two squads were only able to create a few scoring opportunities as both defenses kept either offense from gaining any sustained chances.

Hamilton (1-1-1) outshot Oneonta (2-2-2), 15-9, including 11-3 on the cage.  Oneonta keeper Emilie Mull (Marcy/Whitesboro) made a career high 11 stops to pick up her first individual shutout of her career.

Both teams each had one real scoring opportunity in the opening half of play, but couldn't find the back of the goal.  In the 30th minute, senior Julia Cranz (Huntington/Walt Whitman) was able to get a shot off from outside the box after the ball had come back out to her after a corner kick.  Her shot was heading just inside the right post before Hamilton keeper Emily Dumont was able to collect it.

About five minutes later Hamilton had its best chance of the first half on a shot from just outside the box that floated over the cross bar onto the top of the goal.

In the second half, Oneonta held a 6-5 advantage in shots, as they carried the play for most of the time.  In the final eight minutes, junior Amanda Roney (Schoharie /Middleburgh) had back-to-back opportunities to get Oneonta on the scoreboard, but both shots just trickled wide.

In the two overtimes Hamilton outshot Oneonta 5-2.  The most dangerous chance for the Continentals came in the final two minutes of the second overtime.  Darby Philbrick collected the ball inside the box and got a shot off that Mull had to make a diving stop on.  On the ensuing corner kick, a shot by Ali Clarke was blocked in front by an Oneonta defender.

Oneonta will play the first of three consecutive road games this Saturday at Vassar.  The match is set for a noon start.
