Men's Lacrosse beats Geneseo on senior day

The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team triumphed today over SUNY Geneseo 11-10 on senior day. The Red Dragons defense in the first half was solid, only allowing two goals off 14 shots. The Red Dragons second quarter was to overpowering for Geneseo as they outshot their opponent 21 to 4.

Junior Nathan Doody (Tully/Tully) broke a 0-0 tie at 13:57 of the first quarter by netting his 21st goal of the season. The Knights answered about a minute later on a goal by Michael Engstrom. Doody scored his second goal of the game and Geneseo would answer to keep the score tied at 2-2 at the end of the opening stanza.

In the second quarter, the Red Dragon offense and defense would be firing on all cylinders as Oneonta would out score Geneseo 6-0. Sophomore Nick Schuman (Webster/Webster Thomas) scored his 7th and 8th goals of the season during the quarter. Also, senior Wesley Banks (Centerport/Harborfields) collected his first assist of the year on the Red Dragons last goal of the half, scored by classmate Connor Coyle (Centerport/Harborfields).

In the third quarter, Geneseo outscored Oneonta 4-2 to close the deficit to 10-6 entering the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Geneseo marched back to tie the game at 10 apiece on a goal by Sean Tomkinson with 1:42 remaining in the contest. Twenty-six seconds later, sophomore Alec Solomito (Holtsville/Sachem East) netted his 10th goal of the season and first of the game to lead Oneonta to their first conference win of the season.

Senior Ryan Adler (Smithtown/Smithtown West) had seven saves and collected his fifth win of the season. Senior Ben Hylka (Cortlandt Manor/Lakeland Panas) had three caused turnovers and three ground balls on the day.

The Red Dragons travel to take on Plattsburgh this upcoming Wednesday at beginning at 4:00pm
