For the second straight game, the SUNY Oneonta baseball battled back from a deficit to win in walk-off fashion. Today, they came back from three runs down in the game to win in the ninth against Cazenovia 5-4. The Red Dragons
Erik Johansen (Rosendale/Rondout) collected his second win of the season to improve to 2-0.
The Red Dragons found themselves in a hole in the bottom of the 6
th inning 4-1. Sophomore
Brandon Torres (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) sparked the Red Dragons offense with a base hit up the middle to lead off the inning. The next pitch, Torres would steal second base. Junior
Sean Mullins (Vestal/Vestal) walked to bring up classmate Casey Kies. Kies would lay a great bunt down the third baseline for a base hit. A walk and a hit by pitch would bring the score to 4-3 and a base hit through the left side of the infield off the bat of
Casey Kerdesky (Cornwall/Cornwall) would tie the game at four.
In the bottom of the 9
th inning, with two outs, Mullins got hit by a pitch to give the Red Dragons a baserunner. Kies drove a ball to center field to move the runner into scoring position. Freshman
Mickey Mullins (Vestal/Vestal) would pinch run for Sean, and with a full coun,t senior
Joe Franke (Livingston Manor/Liberty Central) hit a ball to the third basemen that would get past him to push across the game winning run.
The Red Dragons take on SUNY Plattsburgh this Saturday and Sunday in conference play at Plattsburgh.
