Freshman
Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet) came off the bench to score a season best 15 points to help lead the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team to a 61-51 win tonight at home against Oswego. The victory for the Red Dragons raised its early season record to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC while the loss for the Lakers dropped them to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Amalbert scored half of the Oneonta reserves 30 points in the game. She was 4-of-7 from the floor including 3-of-4 from behind the arc. She also was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and had three assists.

The two teams battled closely through the first half of the opening period until an 11-5 run by Oneonta over the final 2:11 of the opening stanza gave the Red Dragons a 23-17 lead. Amalbert hit nothing but net on back-to-back threes to give Oneonta the lead heading to the second period.

The Red Dragons turned up the defense in the third period holding the Lakers to eight points while adding to its lead heading into the break. A jumper by freshman
Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) gave Oneonta a 35-25 lead at halftime. Corso finished the game with nine points.

The Lakers would make a run in the third period outscoring Oneonta 12-7 to trail by five points heading into the final period. Senior Mary Mazzella paced Oswego in the quarter scoring four of her 11 points.

In the fourth, Oneonta's offense kicked into gear posting 19 points to hold off the Lakers. Senior
Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) scored six of her game high 19 points in the fourth period. Adams connected on five three-pointers.

Oneonta outrebounded Oswego 55-33 including 20 off the offensive glass. Sophomore
Madeline Frank (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) pulled down a career high 18 boards including seven offensive rebounds. The 18 boards are the fifth most all-time in a single game for the women.

Oneonta will play again Thursday night at Manhattanville. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
