The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team capped a perfect opening week today by defeating Rutgers-Newark 52-42 to win the title at the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Hartwick. Senior
Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) continued her hot start to the season by leading all scorers with 17 points. The win for the Red Dragons kept them perfect for the season at 3-0.

In today's win, Oneonta blew open a 24-21 lead at halftime with a 17-2 third quarter to take an 18-point lead at 41-23. The 18-point lead was the largest of the game for the Red Dragons. Freshman
Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet/Nanuet) led the charge for the Red Dragons with five points in the quarter. Amalbert finished the game with nine points in 13 minutes of action.

Oneonta trailed after one quarter 14-10. Led by Adams' nine points on 3-of-4 from behind the arc, Oneonta was able to grab the 24-21 lead at the break. Oneonta made four shots from behind the three-point line in the quarter including one from sophomore
Teresa Anken (Rome/Rome Free Academy).

The Red Dragons held off the Scarlet Raiders in the final quarter for the final of 52-42.

In last night's contest, Adams led three players in double figures with 18 points in a 74-61 victory against Clarkson University. Junior
Samantha Lisikatos (Cold Spring/Haldane) added 14 points and seven assists while senior
Sara DiPasquale (Buffalo, NY/Cardinal O'Hara) scored 13 points, grabbed eight boards and blocked a pair of shots.

Oneonta didn't waste any time in jumping out on top of the Golden Knights. The Red Dragons made 8-of-16 shots including 3-of-4 from long range en route to grabbing a 23-11 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

After Clarkson made the first basket of the game, Oneonta seized control with 14 unanswered and never looked back. DiPasquale scored six points to lead the run.

Oneonta closed the game with a 21-point fourth quarter that included 10-of-12 from the free throw line.

The women will not play again until Tuesday, Nov. 29 when they host Hartwick in the Dewar Arena beginning at 6pm.
