Personal Reflections
In looking back at the four years I spent at Oneonta State, I find myself reflecting on some memorable times. From the fall of 1970 until the spring of 1974, I rode a truly outstanding and extremely fortunate ride that has given me the memories that will last a lifetime.

The kid who came out of a high school program that had five coaches in four years to playing for an icon like coach Axtell was the best possible scenario I could ever have walked into. I was lucky enough to play four years on the varsity program and to play with some of the most remarkable baseball players in all of State of New York.

As a young catcher, I was immediately taught the "Axtell" way to play the game!  The players took me under their wing and gave me the confidence to perform at the highest level. Developing the passion to continue the tradition of winning under the tutelage of Coach Axtell has lasted me a lifetime.

I was honored to play with some tremendously talented and gifted players… "Doc" Spartano, Don Albin, Mike Baran, Ray Ellis, Jeff Bray, "Hoyt" Wilhelm, Don McCloud, Roger Weaver, Mike Polanish, Carey Davis and the list could go on forever!

The opportunity was an honor to put on the uniform of the O-State Red Dragons! Winning two SUNYAC championships (1971 and 1974), winning the ECAC Upstate title in 1974. Long hours of preparation, playing in snow covered parking lots, hitting and catching pitchers in the basement of the Science building, running the hall of Chase Gym at 5:30 am…… I would not trade a minute of that for anything! My time at Oneonta was the perfect fit for me, I will cherish those times forever!!

Condon, along with five former student athletes will be part of the 17th SUNY Oneonta Athletics Hall of Fame class to be inducted on Saturday, Sep. 12.  This year's class will bring the number of inductees to 129 individuals including nine honorary inductees.  The induction will take place in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House and will begin at noon.  The induction is free and open to the public.
