The SUNY Oneonta softball team took to the diamond Saturday afternoon as it hosted the Knights of Geneseo. Oneonta would fall in both games of the double header, first 13-10 in nine innings then 5-2 in the second game. Sophomore
Katie O'Gorman (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) had a day for the Red and White recording five hits, four for extra bases, on the day.

Game 1: Â
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third, freshman
Ashley Lefebvre (Waterford/Waterford-Halfmoon) opened the home scoring with two outs, sending the first pitch she saw over the fence in left center for her first career home run. Senior
Nicole Marzillo (Bay Shore/Bay Shore) took the next pitch down the left field line for a single before scoring on a
Traci Lichtenstein (Plainview/JFK) double to right field. The next batter, senior
Brianna Rivera (Pomona/North Rockland), plated Lichtenstein with a 3-0 double to right center.Â

Geneseo responded with three runs in the top of the fourth, all unearned. The first two came on an error by Marzillo while the third came on a two-out RBI single Sami Brown.

The Red Dragons answered with a trio of runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Lefebvre got on with a one-out bunt single then stole second with two down. Lichtenstein reached on a dropped third strike before moving to second on defensive indifference. Rivera came to the dish with two out and a pair in scoring position to reach on a error by the shortstop allowing Lefebvre to score. O'Gorman cleared the bases with her second three-bagger of the day to right field.

Geneseo responded with a two-run sixth inning. Brown sent an RBI triple to right before Courtney Budynas sent an RBI single up the middle.

With their backs against the wall, the Red and White came out fighting in the bottom of the seventh. Lichtenstein led off with a single up the middle, before scoring on a triple to right by Rivera. An error by the shortstop allowed O'Gorman to reach and Rivera to score to send the game to extras.

Following a scoreless eighth, the visitors put up a five-spot in the top of the ninth. Budynas scored on an RBI single by Emily Martin two batters before Abby Dennett sent a grand slam to left.

The Red and White again would not go down without a fight in the bottom of the frame. Rivera started off with a single up the middle. O'Gorman kept a her hot bat going as she rocketed the first pitch she saw over the wall in center.
Senior
Rachel Hitt (Boonville/Adirondack Central) takes the loss as she allowed six runs, three earned, on seven hits with a walk in 3.1 innings of work. Sophomore Jenn Brocco tossed 2.1 innings being charged with a pair of runs on five hits, before classmate
Sabrina DeAngelis (East Meadow/Kellenberg Memorial) finished the final 3.1 innings allowing five runs, no earned, on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Game 2:Â
The nightcap has the same start as the opener, as the Knights scored a single run in the first and two in the second. Oneonta however answered in the bottom of the fifth.

Lefebvre was the first base runner of the frame for the Red and White with a one-out bunt single. She moved to third when pinch hitter sophomore
Shelby Cleaveland (Oneonta/Oneonta) reached and moved to second on a throwing error by the pitcher. Lichtenstein plated Lefebvre with an RBI single to right center. Cleaveland crossed the dish when Rivera reached on a fielder's choice.

Geneseo tacked on two more in the top of the seventh to finish the day.

DeAngelis took the loss allowing five runs, two earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts and a pair of walks.

O'Gorman shined at the plate going 5-7 with a double, two triples and a home run with four RBI.
Â
Lefebvre was 5-9 on the day with a double, a home run, an RBI and three runs scored.

Rivera had a .500 day (4-8) with a double, a triple, three RBI and three runs scored.

Marzillo's streak of reach safely ends at 25, Lefebvre now leads the team reaching in 12 straight.

O'Gorman and Rivera each extend their hit streaks to seven.

Oneonta finishes off SUNYAC play tomorrow when they complete Friday's doubleheader with Brockport at 11 am. A win tomorrow clinches the third seed in the SUNYAC Tournament, a loss puts the Red and White in fourth.
