The rarest occurrence in the sport of lacrosse is a shutout and, for nearly 50 minutes, the SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse kept the host Farmingdale scoreless, as they dismantled the Rams today 10-1.  The win for the Red Dragons gave them a 2-0 start to the season while the loss dropped the Rams to 1-1.
 
Junior Mike Metzger (Colonie/Colonie) led the Oneonta attack with three goals and one assist.  Classmate Ryan Adler (Smithtown/Smithtown West) made 12 saves in goal, as he picked up his second win of the year.
 
The Red Dragons held a 4-0 lead at halftime.  They recorded a pair of goals in each of the first two quarters including a pair by Metzger in the final 20 seconds of each period.
 
Oneonta posted four goals in the third period to take a commanding 8-0 lead.  Metzger and senior Anthony Laureano (Holtsville/Sachem East) each recorded one goal and one assist in the period.  Sophomore Nathan Doody (Tully/Tully) scored Oneonta's lone man-up goal of the game to give the Red Dragons a 6-0 lead with 9:13 remaining in the period.
 
Oneonta's goals in the final period came from junior Connor Coyle (Centerport/Harborfields) and sophomore Patrick Colligan (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker).
 
The Red Dragons will be in action again this coming Tuesday when they will be at No. 9 Union College.
