Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer falls at home to Buffalo State

Today's women's soccer match between host SUNY Oneonta and Buffalo State was for the top overall seed in the upcoming SUNYAC tournament, as both squads entered tied with identical records of 7-0-1 in the conference.

Today's match was tightly contested throughout the 90 minutes.  In the end, a goal by senior captain Gabrianna Boldinski in the 67th minute proved to be the difference in a 1-0 victory for the Bengals.  Buffalo State (13-3-1/8-0-1) captures the program's first SUNYAC regular season title.

Boldinski's goal was a header off of a throw in by freshman Alexis Carillo.  From the right sideline, Carillo was able to throw the ball into the box to about 10 feet where Boldinski headed the ball over an outstretched Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster).

Oneonta's best chance to tie the game came 10 minutes later on a corner kick that generated a pair of shots.  The first came off the foot of freshman Jess Downin (Franklin/Franklin Central), but was blocked.  On the rebound, senior Erica Berry (Bellmore/Kellenberg Memorial) blasted a shot that appeared to be headed for the goal, but was deflected out off a Buffalo defender who happened to be in the way of the shot.

Buffalo finished the match with a 9-6 advantage in shots while Oneonta (11-3-2/7-1-1 SUNYAC) out cornered the Bengals 7-3.

Sophomore keeper Jessica McCarey recorded one save in goal for Buffalo, as she collected her fifth shutout of the season.

Seniors Kelley Murphy (Albany/Colonie Central) and Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster) split the game in goal for Oneonta and combined for three saves.

Oneonta will end its regular season this Wednesday when they play city-rival Hartwick beginning at 7pm.

With its No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, Oneonta will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, Nov. 4 beginning at 11am.  The Red Dragons will face the winner of the Geneseo/Oswego match, which will be played at Geneseo on Saturday, Oct. 31.
