A first half goal by senior
Jessica Lyden (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) was all that was needed today, as the SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team defeated Plattsburgh 1-0. The victory for the Red Dragons gave them a weekend sweep of the North Country, as they remained unbeaten in the SUNYAC and in first place with three games remaining in conference play. The win for Oneonta (9-1-2/5-0-1 SUNYAC) keeps them unbeaten in their last eight games.
Â
Lyden's second goal of the season came in the 36
th minute off an assist from sophomore
Julia Cranz (Huntington/Walt Whitman). Cranz dropped a pass to Lyden at the top of the box where she rocketed a shot to the upper 90.
Â
This is the second straight year that Lyden has notched the game-winner against Plattsburgh. In last year's regular season meeting she scored in the final minute of regulation to lift Oneonta to a 2-1 win.
Â
Oneonta held the edge in both shots (17-7) and corners (8-3) in the match. Nine of Oneonta's shots were on cage.
Â
The senior duo of
Kelley Murphy (Albany/Colonie Central) and
Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster) combined to post the shutout for the Red Dragons. Murphy picked up her sixth win of the year while Stark made four saves in the second half. The shutout was Oneonta's seventh of the season.
Â
Oneonta will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Ithaca beginning at 4pm.
