New Paltz, NY - The SUNY Oneonta men's swimming and diving team were back on the road competing against conference rival New Paltz Hawks yesterday at the Elting Pool on the campus of New Paltz. The Red Dragons were edged by the Hawks 138-124 in a closely contested meet.Â
In the eighth event of the afternoon senior
Colton Roe (Middletown/Pine Bush) finally found a victory for The Red Dragons when in the 100 yard backstroke he took first place with an outstanding time of 54.19 followed by teammate junior
Joseph Morgan (Cornwall/Cornwall) securing first and second for Oneonta. Roe also found the winner's circle in the 200 yard backstroke with a very impressive time of 1:58.02 that was 9.43 seconds ahead of the second place finisher from New Paltz.
The 200 yard butterfly found a Red Dragon winner with junior
Lucas Santiago (Amsterdam/Amsterdam) securing first place with a time of 2:02.06 followed by teammate and freshman
Connor Killane (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) in the runner-up position. The two swimmers combined secured 13 points to the Red Dragon total score. Santiago also had success in the 100 yard butterfly when he took first place with a time of 54.33. He completed his day with another victory in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.30.Â
In the 100 yard breaststroke freshman
Zeke Brynin (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) was a winner when he touched the wall with a time of 1:02.93 a slight margin ahead just .42 seconds in front of the New Paltz runner-up. He then went onto win in the 200 yard breaststroke 6.90 seconds ahead of the second place finisher from New Paltz.Â
The men's diving team will have a very quick turnaround as they travel to Ithaca College to compete in the Ithaca Diving Invitational beginning at 1 PM on Sunday, January 25th.
