Red Dragons Drop Season Opener

Fall to RIT 2-0

Box Score Rochester, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team fell 2-0 at the hands of #21Rochester Institute of Technology Friday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Kelly Murphy came up big early making a point blank save in the 12th minute. However, just six minutes later RIT's Quincey Ornellas headed a corner off the foot of Liz May to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage; that score would stay that way through halftime.

The Red and White came out determined to the start the second half as senior captain Sarah Glowa (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) headed a ball just wide from inside the box.

RIT added a goal in the 53rd minute to bring the game to 2-0. Jessica Lyden (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) provided a chance with a header in the 80th minute, but was robbed the RIT keeper.

Oneonta's defense improved in the second half allowing just a trio of shots compared to the nine allowed in the first half. Glowa and Caitlyn LaPier (Chazy/Chazy) lead the Red Dragon offense with a pair of shots each. Murphy registered four saves on the afternoon.

The Red and White are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they travel to Nazareth for a 2:00 p.m. start.
