Whose SUNY Mascot is the best. SUNY wants to know.
The State University of New York's second annual #Mascot Madness, a month-long social media-driven competition between SUNY campuses to name New York's favorite campus mascot, will kick off Tuesday, March 11, on the Generation SUNY Blog.
"Mascot Madness is a unique opportunity for students, alumni, and members of the public to show their pride for SUNY," said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. "With more than 100,000 votes cast over the course of last year's contest, Mascot Madness has also proven to be a successful social-media tool that boosts school spirit across our university system. Good luck to this year's competitors."
This year's competition includes 43 SUNY mascots who will vie for supporters' votes in a single-elimination, bracket-style competition online. A winner of the contest will be announced when voting ends on Friday, April 4.
SUNY Oneonta's mascot, Red, will be locked up in a three-way battle in round 1 with SUNY Ulster and SUNY Canton. We hope that everyone will take the time to cast a vote for Red. You can cast your vote
here.
The voting will begin on Tuesday, Mar. 11 at 12pm and run up until Tuesday, Mar. 18 at 9am.
"Mascot Madness is the sort of event that drives our pride for SUNY as students across New York," said SUNY Student Assembly President and Student Trustee Tremayne T. Price. "The friendly and intense competition between our nearly half-million students, all of whom the Student Assembly proudly represents, helps to raise the profile of the world-class education and unique learning experience that we all choose to receive at SUNY colleges and universities."
SUNY has more than 85 NCAA Division I, 290 NCAA Division III, and 385 NJCAA athletics teams, as well as hundreds of non-competitive athletics clubs. To learn more, visit the athletics page on SUNY's website for prospective students.
