Sophomore Connor Coyle scored three times, but it wasn't enough today, as the SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team fell to Guilford College, 12-6, in its 2014 season opener. The Red Dragons outshot Guilford (2-0), 47-40, but converted only one-of-eight man up opportunities.
Oneonta opened the scoring at 10:20, as Coyle put a shot in the back of the net with an assist from senior Daniel Stern. Guilford then scored six unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining in the second period.
The Quakers carried a 7-2 lead into halftime and led 9-2 at the conclusion of the third period.
In the fourth period, Oneonta put up four goals including a goal and an assist by sophomore Mike Metzger.
Oneonta will be at Farmingdale State next Saturday, Mar. 1 for a 1pm game.
