Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball edged by Brockport in final seconds

Brockport sophomore Erin Cunningham grabbed a rebound and put it back with three seconds, as the Golden Eagles stole a road win tonight against SUNY Oneonta 54-53.  The rebound came off a missed layup by freshman Faith Welch as time was winding down in the contest.  The win for Brockport raises its record to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the SUNYAC while the loss for Oneonta dropped them to 12-4 overall and 6-3 in the conference.

Oneonta battled from behind all game long and finally gained a 53-52 lead when junior Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) made a pair of free throws with 1:15 remaining in the game.  The Red Dragons trailed by as many as 10 points on two occasions during the second half, the last time at the 9:52 mark.

A basket by freshman Anna Feller gave the Golden Eagles a 47-37 lead.  Oneonta scored nine unanswered points over the next 3:47 to cut the lead to one point at 47-46 with 6:05 to go.

Freshman Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) buried a three-pointer at the 4:14 mark to tie the game at 49 apiece.  On the next trip down the floor, Welch made a layup and was fouled.  She completed the three-point play to give Brockport a 52-49 lead with 3:02 left in the game.

A layup by senior Grace Schilling (Northport/Northport) got Oneonta back to within one point with 2:44 to go, setting up the opportunity for Longto after a couple of missed shots and a turnover.

Longto finished the game with 12 points and four rebounds.  Senior Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford) led Oneonta with 16 points to go with four steals and three assists.

Welch paced Brockport with a game high 17 points, as she was the only Golden Eagle to reach double figures.

Oneonta will back in action tomorrow afternoon at home versus SUNY Geneseo beginning at 2pm.
