Nate Jones (Apalachin/Seton Catholic) walked off a winner today on senior day. Playing in his last home game in a Red Dragon uniform, he drove in the game-tying and game-winning runs while picking up his first collegiate win as a pitcher, as SUNY Oneonta defeated Brockport, 4-3, in the second game of a doubleheader at Red Dragon Baseball Field. The game 2 win earned Oneonta (12-24/7-11 SUNYAC) a split with the Golden Eagles, as Brockport (19-15/6-12 SUNYAC) won game 1, 8-2.
Jones entered the game in the top of the eighth with Oneonta trailing 3-2. Brockport recorded its only hit against him in the inning and had runners at the corners before Jones got Mike Gianni to fly out to left field to end the threat.
In the bottom of the inning, Jones hit a one out single down the right field line that scored
Christopher Orlando (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) from third base that tied the score at three apiece.
Jones retired the Golden Eagles in order in both the ninth and tenth innings to set up the 10th inning heroics.

Dean Haussel (Sound Beach/Miller Place) led off the inning with a double to right center field. Orlando then bunted to sacrifice him over, but beat the throw for an infield hit. With runners at the corners, Brockport intentionally walked
Chris Massaroni (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) to load the bases. The next batter was Jones, who hit the first pitch he saw into left center field for the walk off hit.
Jones relieved junior
Mike McFerran (Albany/Catholic Central), who threw seven solid innings allowing six hits and three runs while recording four strikeouts.

Ivan Plata (Guilderland/Guilderland) paced Oneonta's 12-hit attack with four hits including a double to leadoff the game for the Red Dragons. Orlando collected three hits while Jones had two hits and the two RBIs.
In the first game of the day, Brockport freshman pitcher, Tyler Clifford held Oneonta to four hits and two runs en route to picking up his third win of his rookie season.
The two teams were tied 2-2 after three innings before a two-run blast over the left field fence by Shawn Peake gave the Golden Eagles a 4-2 lead. Brockport tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning and a single run in the seventh inning for the final margin of victory. The big blow in the sixth was a one-out single by Colin Grande that drove in a pair with the bases loaded.
Oneonta will close out the 2013season this coming Tuesday at Keystone College beginning at 3:30pm.
