Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball rally falls short in the 9th inning vs. Ithaca

The SUNY Oneonta baseball team scored three runs in the ninth inning, but came up short today at home to Ithaca College 6-3.  The loss for the Red Dragons dropped them to 10-22 overall while the Bombers improved to 26-6 overall.

Ithaca scored single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.  Corey Caswell and Max Addy hit back-to-back singles to start the second inning, which gave Ithaca runners at the corners.  Caswell came in to score on a fielder's choice, RBI by Matt Connolly.  In the third inning, Ithaca benefitted from an error that allowed Andrew Turner to reach to start the inning.  Turner went to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored an unearned run on a wild pitch.

After a single run in the fifth inning gave the Bombers a 3-0 lead, they tacked on three more in the sixth to increase its lead to 6-0.  Turner and Tim Henry each had an RBI single in the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, Oneonta took advantage of three walks and a hit batsman to account for its runs.  Senior Ivan Plata (Guilderland/Guilderland) drove in one run on a ground out while Chris Romano (Mahopac/Mahopac) and Jake Robinson (Oyster Bay/Oyster Bay) walked to drive in the other two runs.

Sophomore Kyle Jordan (Levittown/Division) pitched four innings for Oneonta today and took the loss.  He allowed three hits and one earned run.

Andrew Sanders went seven innings for the Bombers and improved to 2-2 on the season.  He struck out five batters and scattered four hits and allowed no runs.

Oneonta native Zach Pidgeon threw 1 1/3 and walked four batters while allowing three earned runs before giving way to David Jasukonis, who recorded the final to outs to pick up his fourth save of the spring.

Oneonta will travel to Amsterdam, NY tomorrow to complete its three game series with New Paltz at Shuttleworth Park beginning at 7:30pm.  Tomorrow's game is the rescheduled contest from last Wednesday's rainout of game 2 of a doubleheader.
